President APJ Abdul Kalam, whose fascination for children is well known has perhaps triggered a probable paradigm shift in the way the people of this country view its sports. On meeting Sepp Blatter, FIFA President who is in India, Kalam let out his dream when he wished to popularize football in 6,00,000 villages of India.
Although it is too early to say if President’s dream will become a reality, through the adoption and progress of football at the grass root level along with effective and successful administration of All India Football Federation, leading to Indian football’s surge at the international level. It is indeed premature to believe this but at least a thought process has perhaps seemingly shifted in favour of football. Does this hint sidetrack of cricket not blazing all guns and in virtual dumps?
On Kalam’s wish that children in villages must have opportunities ‘and take inspiration from’ to meet with international footballers, Blatter assured FIFA has plans to send the likes of Beckham, Beckenbaur, and Platini to India, next year.
Blatter was all praise for the Indian President and he was impressed that a man of science knew so much about football.
